A Night in with Yvonne Battle-Felton
Explore a haunting take on the American Gothic with recipient of the 2017 Northern Writers Award for Fiction, Yvonne Battle-Felton, to celebrate the release of her sinister and elusive sophomore novel, Curdle Creek.
Welcome to Curdle Creek. We’re dying to make you feel at home.
Osira, a forty-five-year-old widow, is an obedient follower of the strict conventions of Curdle Creek, an all-Black town in rural America governed by a tradition of ominous rituals designed to keep the residents safe.
Curdle Creek has one particularly strict policy: one in, one out.
And one day, it is Osira’s turn.
Forced into the great unknown. The sinister reality of her birthplace unravels around her. As she comes face-to-face with those she believed were lost, Osira must reckon with all she has ever been told and confront the insidious cruelties of inheritance.
Yvonne will unravel her unique novel with us, speaking on themes of home, belonging, motherhood and what we inherit from society. As the Academic Director of Creative Writing at Cambridge University, she will discuss her journey writing, telling, and teaching stories. Yvonne will share how she uses writing as a tool to understand the past, to make sense of the future, and to help imagine a more equitable tomorrow.
Curdle Creek evokes a fever-dream tale – strange, layered, and quite unlike anything else.
“A gorgeously written, surrealist folktale that goes bone deep. Compelling, thought-provoking, thrilling, haunting, Yvonne Battle-Felton's Curdle Creek is simply a marvel.” Paul Tremblay, author of The Cabin at the End of the World and Horror Movie.
The ‘stream and book’ package includes a unique ticket for the stream, and a copy of Curdle Creek (RRP £20) deliverable to any UK or international address.
